The Boston Terrier is nicknamed 'the American Gentleman' for its gentle disposition and dapper looks. Highly intelligent, compactly built, these dogs were bred after the Civil War for sport fighting. Hard to believe these little stylish dogs were pit fighters. Originating in Boston, they were the first dog breed from the United States to be recognized by the American Kennel Club, in 1893. Patient, trusting, and friendly.
